The LOSSAN rail corridor stretches 351 miles from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, with the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, freight, commuter, and long-distance trains sharing the tracks and certain stations. Ongoing construction projects keep the infrastructure in top condition and contribute to overall improvements in rail travel along the corridor. Larger projects require tracks or stations to be closed so crews can perform necessary work, which can temporarily affect train service.
Track Closures
Partial Service Disruption – January 24-25, 2026
Pacific Surfliner service will be modified during the weekend of January 24-25, 2026, due to Metrolink and NCTD track closures in Southern California.
Train service will continue to operate between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo.
There will be no Pacific Surfliner train service or alternate transportation operating between Los Angeles and San Diego. No bus bridges will be provided in this segment. Please plan ahead for alternate travel arrangements.
Amtrak Connection Bus routes will continue to operate where scheduled; however, regularly scheduled train connections to Amtrak Connection buses may not be available.
This service disruption is part of a coordinated effort by host railroads along the LOSSAN corridor to complete critical track infrastructure projects while reducing the overall impact on riders. Projects being advanced during this period include:
- Orange County: Track and crossing improvements, and construction supporting the Orange County Coastal Rail Resiliency improvements
- San Diego: Del Mar Bluff stabilization, capacity enhancements, and maintenance work
Tracks Reopened: Gaviota Coast
Pacific Surfliner service between Goleta Station and San Luis Obispo station has returned following repairs to the railway on the Gaviota Coast. As of January 13, passengers can buy tickets and ride to/from San Luis Obispo station.
